Scripture

  1. Psalm 51:3–4 [1]

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. (ESV)
  3. Joel 2:12–13 [1]
Return to the LORD “Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster. (ESV)
  4. Romans 8:12–13 [1]
Heirs with Christ So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (ESV)
  5. 2 Corinthians 7:10 [1]
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. (ESV)
