Question 100

Is the blaspheming of God's Name by swearing and cursing such a grievous sin that God is angry also with those who do not prevent and forbid it as much as they can?

Certainly,¹ for no sin is greater or provokes God's wrath more than the blaspheming of His Name. That is why He commanded it to be punished with death.²

Leviticus 5:1 ^[1]
“If anyone sins in that he hears a public adjuration to testify, and though he is a witness, whether he has seen or come to know the matter, yet does not speak, he shall bear his iniquity; (ESV)
Leviticus 24:16 ^[2]
Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him. The sojourner as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death. (ESV)
